Eating Disorder Counseling

Eating disorders are present when an individual experiences severe disturbances in eating behavior, such as restriction, binge eating, or purging behaviors.  Eating disorders typically develop as a means to control emotions.  Eating disordered behavior includes fixation on food, or, lack of food, as a means to gain a sense of control or strength.  Common eating disorders are bulimia, anorexia, and binge eating disorder.

Eating disordered behavior can cause severe physical and mental issues if not treated.  Eating disorders have the highest mortality rate of any other mental health diagnosis.

Eating disorders are treatable, when paired with a trained therapist who works in collaboration with a team of providers.

Mary specializes in the treatment of eating disorders and is passionate about education regarding the prevalence and treatment of eating disorders.
